F.A.Q.: What is “Instantized” vs. Non-instantized

The process of Instantizing is purely for product performance and the benefit of the consumer. Instantized food products, like whey protein, mix and dispurse in liquids far better than their non-instantized products, which clump and mix poorly. Low grade protein powders on the market are typically not instantized. The consumer may believe they are getting a comparable product at a reduced rate, but here at BulkFoodsDirect.com you get the best of both worlds: Instantized Whey Proteins at the most affordable rates in the country.

Although each of our American manufacturers has proprietary and trade secret processes for instantizing, in general, to instantized protein, the product is spray-coated with lecithin during the drying process. This coating reduces the tendency of certain protein molecules to stick to one another. As a result, the protein flows more readily, disperses in liquids and is easier to mix. The instantized coating has no effect on the protein if used for cooking. The amount of residual trace soy lecithin is negligible.

All high quality protein powders are instantized. We offer no other type to our consumers as we believe these to be the gold standard for mixing shakes, baking cookies, preparing breads, and any other creative cooking idea you may have.

F.A.Q.: Whey Protein and Low Glycemic Index

The “glycemic index” is defined as the percentage a food raises your blood sugar relative to the same amount of carbohydrate in the form of glucose. Glucose goes directly into your blood quickly, while other types of carbohydrates take some time to be absorbed. It has been observed that fast, sharp rises is blood sugar contribute to spikes in insulin concentration and therefore contribute to fat accumulation, diabetes and heart disease. Much work has been devoted to characterizing various kinds of carbs and their effect on blood sugar. Recently, it has been observed that consuming whey protein during the day significantly LOWERS the GI of the foods with which it is consumed AND continues to lower the GI of all foods consumed during the day. In other words, the simple act of eating a scoop of whey protein during the day can alter the biochemistry in your gut and change the dynamics of nutrient absorption. This is good news for all of us regardless of age or health status. You will also find that you can use whey protein in everyday cooking and baking in addition to making shakes or mixing it with oatmeal. It has never been easier to lose weight and be healthier. F.A.Q.: Diabetes and Whey Protein

Type 2 Diabetes is a major problem in the developed world. While its origins and development are still not well understood, one connection that has been solidly established is that insulin sensitivity issues are affected strongly by ingestion of simple sugars from sources such as soda or processed foods. It is also well known that mixing protein sources with these sugars mitigates the adverse reaction that the body suffers. The oscillations from blood sugar rise followed by insulin spikes and fat gain can easily be prevented just by adding protein. One such protein source which has been proven to be an excellent way to augment one’s diet is Whey Protein. Whey protein specifically functions to lower the Glycemic Index (GI) of foods and slow the blood sugar response of carbohydrates when consumed only once a day. Whey protein can shift the balance of common foods from harmful to healthy without changing the texture or taste. The conditions that can exacerbate any imbalance of the endocrine system that often lead to the onset of diabetes can be significantly altered if not eliminated. In many cases, Type 2 diabetes can be controlled or reversed with diet and exercise. You can change your diet today, simply by adding whey protein and not changing much else. It is a great way for you to see just how sensitive your body is to small differences in your food consumption. You will immediately be motivated to make greater changes to produce more dramatic results. For example, take one day out of the week and consume whey protein at each meal and snack, adding only a small amount of complex carbs. You will find it hard to overeat and will immediately feel the difference. Don’t let fear of diabetes control you; take you life back today by changing what you eat. Like the man said, let food be you only medicine.

Whey Protein F.A.Q.: Bariatric Surgery, Wound Healing and Weight Loss

It is more than obvious to all of us that in the US there is an obesity epidemic with a concomitant rise in Type 2 diabetes. One radical but well accepted technique to deal with these problems is to undergo surgery to alter the shape and size of your stomach and digestive system. It has been observed that bariatric surgery can in some cases reverse the symptoms of diabetes and lead to drastic weight loss. While we take no position on the appropriateness of these procedures, it is extremely important for anyone considering them to think about changing their nutritional program both before and after surgery. One would like to accomplish several things with a nutritional plan:
  • Shrink the stomach before surgery
  • Take in plenty of protein to support the lean mass that is to be maintained
  • Consume soft and easily digestible food post-surgery
  • Increase protein intake for wound healing and immune support
  • Avoid saturated fats and simple carbs
  • Continue with a protein supplement to alter the Glycemic Index of the total diet
  • Consume protein as part of an exercise and lifestyle altering program to create more lean mass
Pure whey protein isolate is the perfect addition to a sensible diet plan for anyone who is contemplating bariatric surgery. It is high in bio-available protein, low in fat and has no carbs. It mixes well with water or various milks (cow, almond, rice or soy) and goes down smoothly. Mix it with your favorite flavorings or because it is unflavored itself, cook with it. Any way you use it, whey protein will support your healing process, help balance your gut and give you the energy you need to propel your body to the next level of fitness. Please don’t think another minute about bariatric surgery without laying out your nutritional battle plan. You won’t regret the little time it will take.

F.A.Q.: Whey Protein as Part of a Gluten Free Diet

A gluten-free diet is a diet completely free of ingredients derived from gluten-containing cereals: wheat (including kamut and spelt), barley, rye, and triticale, as well as the use of gluten as a food additive in the form of a flavoring, stabilizing or thickening agent. It is recommended amongst other things in the treatment of coeliac disease, non-coeliac gluten intolerance, dermatitis herpetiformis, migraines, Lyme disease and wheat allergy. Additionally, the diet may exclude oats. Some people for whom the diet is recommended can tolerate oat products and some medical practitioners say they may be permitted, but there is some controversy about including them in a gluten-free diet because studies on the subject are incomplete. Even if oats are included, it's important to source these from a facility that is gluten free, as most oats are contaminated during processing. Look for oats which are certified gluten free if you are following a gluten free diet.

Whey Protein is a Gluten Free product derived from the creation of Cheese. It is an amazing dietary addition and provides a expansive amino acid profile.
